Kiddo's daycare is closed for professional development today. I'm grateful that work from home flexibility means I don't have use any leave. I'm also grateful that I don't mind hearing the Fancy Nancy theme song over and over and over again. Here's what else was good this week:

My brother is coming in to town tomorrow. It will be the first time I've seen him since Christmas. I'm very excited about it. I think the kiddo is even more excited. She seems to prefer her uncle over everyone else. Here's what else made me happy this week:
Kiddo's daycare is closed today for parent-teacher conferences. I took the day off to handle that BUT our daycare managed to schedule an almost full day art camp at a local studio. Instead of going to the office, I kept my day off to run errands and tackle a few small home chores. It feels really good to get these things done. Here's what else made me smile this week:
Our neighborhood list-serv has been all flustered sharing how hard it's been to get the new COVID vaccine. People are complaining about abruptly cancelled appointments, no availability, long lines, cost, and confusion. I scheduled my appointment for a COVID and flu shot two weeks ago. I've been nervous ever since. Today, I waltzed into the store, checked-in on my phone, went to the pharmacy, waited about 8 minutes, and got my arm jabs. Easy-peasy. I'm happy that didn't encounter any issues. CVS even sent me some decent coupons afterwards. Here's what else made me happy this week:
I'm working my way through the back episodes of Radio Atlantic. It's rather interesting to hear the recordings from the start of the pandemic. It's like a time warp to hear the fuzzy audio, zoom glitches, and rehear the news from those days. These episodes have helped me get through some necessary but tedious projects this week. Here's what made me smile this week:
I took the kiddo to her dentist appointment this morning. The entire walk there, she entertained herself by taking beads off a pipe cleaner (she had previously made a bracelet) and then putting them back on again. I miss those days of simple enjoyment, but I'm glad I get to see her experience them. Here's what else made me smile:
I'm in Texas for a conference where the heat index is over 100. The conference rooms, as per usual, are about 62 degrees. I am happy that I had the forethought to bring a pashmina to act as a blanket when I'm inside. Here's what else was good this week:
I love working from home when the weather is glorious. I've got the windows open and this room is a perfect 71 degrees and 52% humidity. Plus, I get to hear the birds sing and the breeze blow through the trees. It is the perfect way to end the work week. Here's what else made me happy:
Normally, I share mostly small things in this post. Today, I want to lead with a big one. I just submitted my enormous portfolio to begin the faculty promotion process. It was frustrating, tedious, and a rather large PIA - BUT it showed me how awesome I am. There were 18 pages of narrative plus all the supporting material of all the work I completed in the past 4 years. I'm glad it's over but it was a satisfying thing to do. Plus, the two people who wrote me letters of recommendation made me tear up with happiness. Here's what else was good this week:
Kiddo and I just got back from her annual well visit. While we had to wait a long time, she was patient and cooperative. That made our visit much easier. Plus, the weather is glorious and the walk to and from the office was a nice break. Here's what else was good this week:
