The Now: October 27, 2021

I'm squeezing this post in between sessions of the Internet Librarian conference. I am undecided if online conferences are great or not great. I love that I can get other work done between sessions BUT it does mean you miss the full conference experience. There is no chit-chat with colleagues between sessions, no exhibit hall to visit, no random encounters that lead to great ideas... and no conference bagels. I miss conference bagels.

But, at least I get to attend sessions without freezing and my office chair is more comfortable than any ballroom seating.

Here's what else has my attention this week.

WORK

• As mentioned above, I am attending the Internet Librarian conference. My presentation is tomorrow, so I finished my slides and notes earlier this week.
• We are working on the next steps in our Research Assignment study. Now we are focusing on the interviews and how, exactly, we want to analyze the data.
• Our University has some money to throw around. Instead of just saying "You get it" this time, they're asking departments to submit proposals. I am working on three for the library. I think we'll definitely get money to fund at least one of them.
• A department I work closely with held a two-day hackathon to develop an app for professional development training. While the library is not a full partner on this, we are providing support. It was fascinating to see the coding process and planning that goes in to developing something like this.
• Still working on all the logistics for the webinar series. We've got four more sessions to go.
• The bulk of my coding work for the new webpage is done but now I am debugging. I need to figure out where in the code is causing some issues on the backend. This could take awhile...

PERSONAL

• I updated my reading list. Chugging along pretty good this year.
• I'm making another round of lox since all the grandparents are in town. They're the ones who gifted the salmon and we figured it would be nice to share.
