The Now: October 11, 2023

Every time my email alert goes off, I wonder if its another student appointment. One of our professors is requiring students to make appointments with us. We love that. What we don't love is the tight deadline for these appointments. We're being inundated as students try to fit in our schedules in a one week window of time. It'll all work out, but we're thinking an "office hours" might be a better way to handle this kind of assignment in the future.

Here's what else I've got going on:

1. Library Instruction - We are at the height of teaching season. I've got several library instruction classes on my calendar. They range from intro writing to psychology to some graduate level seminars. I like teaching and, this time around, I'm trying to adapt what we've learned in our project of how faculty approach teaching research. One class was so engaged that we ended the session talking about the problems of copyright law and academic publishing. That wasn't on the agenda!
2. Internet Librarian - I'm presenting at the Internet Librarian Connect conference next week. Now that I've got my childcare issue all sorted out, I've been focusing on my content. I've got a draft of my slides done and, once again, it took my far too long to find images. My session focuses on the idea that YOU are not your user and how that impacts customer service.
3. Arm Jabs - It took me awhile to find them, but I booked my COVID booster and flu shot for Friday. Hopefully the side effects are mild. Last time, I spent a weekend afternoon as a complete loaf on the couch, shivering under a blanket.
