The Now: March 9, 2022

I just finished doing a small round of stretches in my cubicle because I have been glued to my chair all day working on a research project. I forgot how much that can put a crick in your back and shoulders.

Here's what has my attention at the moment.

WORK
  • Today, I spent several hours transcribing one of our research interviews. It's difficult to strike a delicate balance between editing out the verbal filler words/phrases/noises and not changing the actual interview. This interview was particularly tricky because the subject's filler words also added context sometimes. Anyway, I've got to give this one a final review... and then transcribe one more. Send Advil.
  • Related to the above, we are done with our interviews and are beginning to enter the analysis and next steps phase. There are so many things we could do with what we've learned. We need to wrangle all our ideas. I know one thing I will be doing is adjusting some of video creation work related to teaching library and information skills.
  • I started working on my presentation for the 2022 Computers in Libraries conference. This was scheduled to be in-person, but they moved it online. (Register here!) I will be speaking about the importance of internal communications.
  • Our faculty tenure portfolios are due next week. As much as I want to procrastinate it, I started working on mine. This is going to be several long hours of writing, downloading and organizing files, and then confirming I didn't miss anything.

PERSONAL
  • At the end of last week, I took a few "life management" days off of work. I cleaned, did laundry, did some financial and tax work, scanned a lot of files, and just checked small nagging personal tasks off my to-do list.
  • Last weekend, I took the kiddo out on an excursion to meet up with a friend outside of our neighborhood. I am now planning more of these trips. The Omicron wave is waning, which makes this feel safer. And, after seeing our kiddo's trepidation, I want her to experience more things. She's a true pandemic kid, and I'm ready to start letting her out a bit more in the world. (Plus, we got some toddler size, KN95 masks and she is great about keeping hers on.)
  • After a few hours of searching, I found a mirror to hang in our living room. My notifications tell me it arrived today. We'll probably try to hang it this weekend.
  • Our building had it's bi-monthly donation pick up. We dropped off some stuff - always feels good to keep on top of that.
