The Now: March 6, 2024

I always think spring break will be an "easy" week and it never is. The students might not be here but I try to cram in too many projects. At least I got to have some fun with drink umbrellas.

Here's what I'm working on:

  1. Faculty Portfolio: This is due on Friday and is my main project. It was easier to put together this year because I could reuse a lot of my material from my promotion application. It's still an annoying process to update all the content, write new content, and gather all my evidence. And then there's the logistics of naming and organizing all my files. Every year, I'm annoyed by this but, once I submit my work, I'm proud of all the things I accomplished in a single year.
  2. Conference Presentations: I will be presenting a main session and a "cybertour" at the Computers in Libraries Conference next week. My material focuses on getting academic libraries to teach "outside the box." We're often called in to provide library orientation and "teach the databases." This is not the best use of our skills. We can do so much more to support students and faculty as they navigate the ever changing world of information.
  3. Annual Family Meeting: The Husband and I sat down for our annual family meeting. I got this idea from a friend and it's been a great way to communicate about our goals and ideas for the year. It's half logistics and half discussing wishes/intentions. Now I'm working through our agenda and notes to get what I'm handling added to my to-do lists and calendar.
