The Now: July 13, 2022

Our daycare changed it's COVID close contact policy and not a moment too soon! We learned a kid in her class tested positive last night. Instead of a mandatory 10-day quarantine, we get to test to stay. Having to basically tackle and hold down our kiddo for her "nose tickle" is not one of our favorite activities, but we will do it for the next five days if it means she gets to stay in school.

Here's where my attention is going.

WORK
  • Research Assignment Design: Coding. Lots of coding. Coding all the time. Thinking about how I am coding wrong. Trying to fix coding. Deciding that everything is fine. Qualitative coding is a pain. I am also coming to the realization that we have a lot of data. We just need to decide how to use it. AND we don't need to try to use it all at once. At some point, my collaborators and I will just need to push forward and focus on one thing. We can always go back to what's left.
  • Presentations and Publications: I submitted a proposal to speak at the Library Marketing and Communications Conference. I want to talk about how to find your library brand. From there, I will look at helping organizations lean into their brand or change their brand image. I'm also thinking about submitting a book chapter proposal for a title on management, but I'm not sure if my heart is in it at the moment.
  • LibGuides: I "finished" the antiracism guide. I sent it out to folks for review but I went ahead and hit publish. I will edit as comments role in. It's odd making a guide like this for an HBCU. I also published an updated version of our freshman common read guide. I added a page for this year's selection, Normal Sucks by Jonathan Mooney.
  • Instruction: I set up my first class for the fall semester. I love it when professors book early. Since this was a professor and class I've done before, I just confirmed that she was okay with the existing agenda and slides. We agreed to focus a bit more on discussing how to find peer-reviewed articles.
  • Administration: We need more library swag. I put together a proposal and ranked what we wanted. Really hope we get the mini staplers. They are one of the more expensive items but I know they will be popular.

PERSONAL
  • Estate Planning: My last personal account was officially converted to our Trust. Huzzah. Still only in the "I need to get to this" stage of our guardianship document.
  • Email Newsletter: I want to sit down and more fully plan out the topic ideas for the My Top 3 newsletter for paid subscribers. I have a nice long topic list, but very few items in the countdown.
  • Home Projects: Did a full home weed and found another two bags of items to donate. Not my biggest clean out, but that may be because we now maintain a box of items to donate at all times. Since our building does pick-ups every two months, we take advantage of that. Also, the husband is working on scheduling a professional home cleaning. It's my yearly birthday present and I adore it.
  • Hobbies: Nothing since last week, but I am actually itching to do some coloring.
