The Now: January 10, 2024

I had a dentist appointment this morning. I followed that up by immediately drinking coffee. I always feel so bad for my teeth. I get them all nice and clean and then drown them in a hot, acidic beverage. But coffee is forever necessary.

Here's what I've got going on:

1. Embedded Librarian Set Up: This is the first week of classes and we brought back our embedded librarian program for our general education writing courses. We got access to our learning management system for each class this week which means it's full steam ahead. I spent a lot of time setting up my discussion board, sending announcements, reviewing syllabi, and looking at the the first few weeks of material. It's an effort to get things off the ground but I found that my weekly maintenance is fairly sustainable. Plus, we have a previous semester underneath us which means we can reuse material that worked in the Fall.
2. Editing: My upcoming article for Computers in Libraries Magazine was due today. My first draft was much longer than anticipated. It took several rounds of editing to knock it down by nearly 1,300 words. Now, I'm line editing our article on faculty research assignment design. This one is slower going because a) it's academic writing and b) I'm a coauthor. I warned the research team that I would likely want to cut too much.
   
3. Photo Management: I try to get the photos off my phone once a month. I have failed at that goal since the end of August. For the past few nights, I've spent time transferring, renaming, and backing up almost six months of pictures. It's tedious when there are so many. This is why I try to do smaller batches more frequently. I'm caught up... for now.
