The Now: April 10, 2024

There is a white board in my cubicle. Each semester, I write out my top three priorities and then list a few minor *bonus* projects I want to work on. Over to the side, I list out a calendar of big events and deadlines. It's helpful to see this every day, but can also be a little dispiriting. I still have two open priority projects and the odds of me finishing both of them in the next month are non-existent. I've decided I'm going to focus on one. Progress on something is better than nothing.

Here's what I'm working on:

1. Hiring Committee: We are in round two of interviews for an open position. I both love and hate being on these committees. I love getting to talk to people and hear about their backgrounds and ideas. BUT, it's a lot to consider. You can never fully know how someone will work in a position. There's a lot of hoping things work out.
2. Content Prompt Survey: I'm about to close the reader survey. I've been looking at responses as they come in, but I want to do a deep assessment next. I'm also planning on writing up a post to share what I learned. It's been great to see that people are mostly happy with things. There has also been some helpful constructive criticism to consider.
3. Travel Prep: Kiddo and I are headed to Florida on Saturday. I'm trying my darndest to not check a bag. I developed a rather pared down packing list. I also sent my mom a list of things I hope they can provide so I don't have to pack them. Fingers crossed I can make it all fit. It's nice that kiddo gets two bags of her own but she's not big enough to carry things that are too heavy. I'm having to account for how I am going to carry four bags by myself.
