We've got family in town, so let's go straight to the Wrap!

  • Connecting the dots on how we get to criminalizing women for having abortions. [Abortion, Every Day]
  • A delightful breakdown of British pub culture. [CNN]
  • I usually side eye stories about fashion "rules," but this one about what to wear to work was fine. [WaPo - gift link]
  • Institutional knowledge is worth saving. [Niche Academy]
  • Social apps should be companions to not replacements for real life. [Embedded]

  • The only story about DOGE that doesn’t make me want to claw my eyes out. [Planet Money]
  • I am proud to be what I am. [The Kitchen Sisters Present]
  • There's a devil in this giant bible. [Atlas Obscura]
  • Eating and farming like the Aztecs. [Gastropod]

  • I was feeling a meaty drama, so we turned on September 5. This tells the story of the death of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics but focuses on the perspective of the American sports media crew covering the story. It's a fantastic movie with a phenomenal cast. The acting and production are all well-done but it does center the media process over the human athletes. The film walks a delicate line of telling a story versus the real life human loss.  It's not always successful but it does try really hard to remind viewers about the lives lost that day. [Amazon Prime]
  • We watched almost all of the Season 2 of Disney+'s Doctor Who. It's fine. Once again, as with the first season Disney produced, the episodes that are story forward excel. The ones that are Disneyified lack so much heart; they are just too glossy in their production. Doctor Who is supposed to come across as campy and low budget. [Disney+]

  • When I made one-pot beans and rice with corn and salsa, I didn't expect it to make so much food! We had more leftovers than we could eat. It was tasty, but these rice dishes always seem to take longer than planned to cook. Also, I stirred this a bit too much during the cooking process which kind of turned it into a risotto with Mexican flavors. [Eating Well]
  • Now that our kiddo is eating more than hot dogs, I made cheesy polenta bowls with kielbasa and peppers. It was good, but I really wanted to add creole seasoning to the mix. It just needed an extra bit of flavor. [What to Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking]
  • For my lunch meal prep, I mixed up chickpea, beet and feta salad with lemon-garlic vinaigrette. I picked this recipe for the beets, but they got lost in the mix. Next time, I will use two cans instead of one. Also, I bet this would have been better with fresh roasted beets, but I didn't have the time to make those. [Eating Well]
