The Now: October 30, 2024

I will not be in the office for Halloween this year. It's one of my work from home days. But I've prepped a plastic pumpkin of treats for my colleagues to put out at the Reference Desk. It's a little thing, but our students love it. Also, I took feedback from the first year we did this and broadened our offerings beyond chocolate.

Here's what else I'm working on:

1. Bits and Pieces: Now that the main rush of the semester is over, we've settled into a rhythm for our work. That means, I'm finally getting a chance to work on the little things that need to get done. Tasks like putting our hours on our main door, ordering SWAG, writing out video ideas, learning my small rig, and preparing material for various reports. A lot of this had to be backburnered while we settled into our new space. 
2. ​Newsletter Change: I figured out how I wanted to change the subscriber bonus post for my Weekly Wrap newsletter. This week, I took a break from posting this as content to develop all the backend material. I made graphics, designed a template, changed Substack settings, updated form emails, created a tracking database, and all of that jazz. I think my new post design is more on brand with the newsletter and it will be a bit easier on me to make.
3. *breathing*: I am not at all comfortable with next week's national election. At this point, I'm just trying to keep my stress in check through some deliberative breathing. I'm also making a list of things I can do on election night to help distract and focus on nervous energy. I have a feeling our bathroom is going to be sparkling clean afterwards.
