The Now: October 16, 2024

Right now, there are piles of things on my desk. I don't know why they are there. I put them there "to get to later" but it's been weeks now and the piles keep growing. Clearly, I need to put an "odds and ends" days on my calendar to just tackle whatever this random stuff is.

Here's what I've been focusing on:

1. AI: Like every university, our University is grappling with how to handle generative AI. It seems that people divide into "gung ho" and "totally ignoring" camps. At the library, we are neither of these. We are very much for AI when it makes sense but have a lot of caveats and cautions to these tools. We're working with some other departments to develop supportive information and training material for our students, faculty, and staff. This field is changing rapidly so we just want to keep up.
2. Slide Decks: I've got five upcoming presentations - two of them are just weeks away. I'm working on all my slide decks and handling the backend logistics for everything.
3. Newsletter Changes?: I'm contemplating a change to my subscriber material in The Weekly Wrap newsletter. I don't find as much joy in My Top 3 now that I am two years in to producing that content. Plus, it doesn't feel as on brand as I want. Not sure where I'm headed (or even if I'm changing things) but I'm brain dumping when alternative ideas come to mind.
