The Now: July 10, 2024

I had my regular dental cleaning today and I always feel like I have to apologize to the hygienist. They do a great job and then I immediately go drink coffee and eat breakfast. That's what I get for scheduling my appointments first thing in the morning.

Here's what I've been working on:
  1. Common Read: I finally found out what our University is doing for this academic year's freshman common read. I got my hands on the book, Undocumented by Dan-el Padilla Peralta (*Bookshop.org affiliate link), and started reading it this week. I'm taking copious notes so that I can update our support guide. Once I'm done, I'll share everything with the program director and faculty to help support their classes and students.
  2. Interviews: We entered the interview stage for the hiring committee I'm on. When the first three were schedule back-to-back-to-back, I got real nervous. Turns out, my fears were unjustified. Non-academic interviews don't go nearly as long! This is a harder position to judge so I think our committee meeting after we talk to all the candidates it going to be interesting.
  3. School Prep: Our kiddo heads to kindergarten in the fall. She'll be fine but I'm an emotional wreck about it. The years are going back so fast! To help me cope, I'm doing my usual Type-A over-planning. This week, I her enrolled in before and after care and messaged the school to get details about new parent orientation. I also read almost everything listed on her school's website.
