The Now: December 18, 2024

Today is my last day of work until 2025. (Woohoo!) I'm in the office and I'm rushing to finish my end of year prep while squeezing in an unexpected promotional project and a last minute tour for some possible funders. It's chaotic, but at least it's all good stuff.

Here's what I'm working on:

1. Promotional Booklet: As a rush project, the library was asked to design a booklet promoting everything we have done in the past year. We were given zero details and only three days. Normally, this kind of project would be something I would spend a month putting together. Since the tight deadline makes a actually glossy booklet a pipe dream, I'm focusing on content and photos. I roped in most of the library faculty to draft various sections and dig through their files for pictures. I wrote my own sections, polished all the writing, pulled more pictures, and put everything in a shared folder. This is what we will turn in. If a glossy booklet is the actual desire, I will turn to that in the new year.
2. Personal Archiving Article: The editor of Computers in Libraries magazine reached out to ask if I would turn a presentation on personal archiving into a article. Sure! I used my presentation outline to draft the article outline. Now, I'm writing each section chunk my chunk. I'll finish the first draft in the new year, give it a heavy edit, redraft, and then submit it to the editor early in January.
3. Holiday Magic: We're doing all we can to make the holidays magical for the kiddo. That means we've been going to a lot of special experiences, filling an advent calendar, decorating, taking part in her school's holiday spirit week, and getting ready to host our families. With my upcoming days off, I am going to be doing a lot of cooking baking and present wrapping.
